From The Desk Of Lady Cynthia Bolden
Why are we so tired and stressed these days? Somehow, somewhere, we’ve got the idea that we must do it all (and I know I’m not by myself when I say this)… If you keep that up, something is going to be lacking in your life. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 12:28 Come to me, all of you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. Wow, so much Joy in knowing that our Heavenly Father cares so much for us that He even wants us to rest. I don’t know about you, but we all have gotten to a point in our lives where we have felt weary and overwhelmed with life. If you, too, are desperate for a change, I want to share with you a few points “from my desk” on how to experience God’s peace for you. It’s all about learning how to get away … get away with HIM.
Part 1
Where did we even get the idea that we must constantly be doing something? Even our Heavenly Father took a day of rest. Genesis 2:2 On the seventh day God ended His work which he had made, and He rested. (KJV) He didn’t want us to be so consumed by our work that we neglected worship. He didn’t want us to be so busy making and producing that we couldn’t spend time enjoying what He made for us. I love to just look around my surroundings and see the wonderful creation of My Heavenly Father. God is showing us what our lives should look like. A balanced life of rest and work is possible through HIM.
Listen, God longs for us to rest in HIM and not try to do everything ourselves. God is tired of us being too tired for HIM. Everybody needs a resting place. This is your place where you can just sit back, close your eyes, and ask God to help you find stillness and joy and refresh in HIM. This a place where you can meet HIM in the quietness (oh that sounds refreshing). Once you go to that place, LISTEN! Listen quietly with your heart and mind. Psalms 16:11 In your presence is fullness of joy. Being still and being with Him. This time is for YOU to just be Together with GOD. Believe me, you DO have TIME. It’s so easy to get caught up with all we have to do in our jobs and in our homes. As you find that resting place, focus on God’s presence, and let HIM take you to a place where your thoughts are no longer preoccupied with your “to-do list”. This is HIS time. And if there’s a problem with not being focused, ask HIM to help you slow down and notice the things He wants you to notice. Learn how to sit with HIM in the silence and set your mind on the things above not on all the things going on around you and in this world.
So think about a place where you can find quiet and alone time with God (let me clarify). I didn’t say take a year sabbatical and NEGLECT what God has given you “your family, job, and a household to take care of”. That time alone could be just a few moments. It could be in your closet, your car on a lunch break, or even the bathroom. Whatever it takes, find that time to REST IN HIM.
